PCF9: Fragrant Bouquet

bouquet

I inhale the sweet scent
Of your fragrant bouquet,
With the promise it implies
Suffusing my mind.
Surely no man who
Gifts this exquisite display
Could be anything but
Reliable, gentle, and kind.

PCF8: Ghost Ship

Starry night beach sand

I walk alone among the stones,
Their names worn away
By time’s embrace.
I lift my face to the midnight mist
And sea kisses sweep across my lips,
Tempting me to the tide.
Silhouettes from another realm,
Dance demonically across the sand;
The rhythmic darkness swallows me.
Waves soak my shoes;
Shadows hold my hand,
As I stare into infinity’s abyss.
A vessel cuts a sharpened shape,
Separating from the stars;
My mind plays tricks,
While my heart beats scarred,
For I know you float
Upon that ghost ship,
So near,
And still so far.

PCF7: Autumn Fire

halloween

As the nights grew long and colder,
Love appeared in mid-October.
Clinging to a spiced apple kiss,
I had no power to resist
The golden flame of desire
As it burst into autumn fire,
When the trees shivered down
A red carpet on the ground.
But as the days grew shorter still.
Our passion waned and chilled;
Frost was not only in the air,
But in your distant, vacant stare.
Before we shared the pumpkin pie,
You ghosted off without goodbye.
I spent the holidays alone,
Wondering why love had flown.

PCF5: Possibility

woman face reflection ghost water

The possibility seemed endless
When I gazed into the lake’s foggy mirror
And saw a face filled with love.

But what do I know of love,
Shape-shifting in a misty grey mirror,
While loneliness remains endless?

I search for perfection in the mirror;
Reflections of ghosts float on endless,
But I never see a glimmer of love.

Endless mirror, haunting my dreams, never reveals the love that I need.

PCF3: We’ve Got Issues

red shoes

I knew he was trouble when he sashayed up to me in those fancy cowboy boots. He gave me the once-over and his gaze settled on my feet, which were encased in the sparkling glass slippers I had borrowed from the palace museum after handing in my notice.

“Whatchu gonna do in those shoes?” he drawled.

“Dance the night away,” I replied loftily.

He laughed. “Those don’t look like dancing shoes, mam.”

“Neither do your boots,” I retorted.

“These boots are made for walkin’,” he said. “And that’s just what they’ll do. Care to join me?”

I shook my head and pointed to the discrepancy in our footwear. His boots were tough and scuffed, while my slippers were delicate and glamorous. “Those are your shoes,” I told him. “These are my shoes. We’ve got issues.”

That’s when he pulled out his badge.

PCF2: Morning Chill

park pond green algae bird trees

I shiver at the water’s edge,
Braced against the morning chill;
Squirrels chitter to their friends;
The lake is green and still.
An egret poses like a queen,
Haloed in the pale light;
She may not have all she needs,
But what is here will suffice.

PCF1: Ocean Whispers

Cloudy beach ocean sea birds waves

The ocean whispers songs to me:
Secrets soft as swirling foam
Swept away on the summer breeze.

My tears fall in the salty sea;
Weeds wash around the stones;
The ocean whispers songs to me.

Memories obfuscate my dreams;
I’ve traveled much too far from home,
Swept away on the summer breeze.

How can I know what to believe?
With trust in tatters, love has flown.
The ocean whispers songs to me,

Soothing my astringent grief.
I sway to the rhythmic monotone,
Swept away on the summer breeze.

Music sets my spirit free–
Nature’s calling back her own.
The ocean whispers songs to me,
Swept away on the summer breeze.
