TGIF ~ Desert Haiku

Yeah, so it’s been a while since I tossed out a Paint Chip Friday prompt, but I saw some new paint colors and got inspired. If you are so inclined, choose a word or two from my haiku and create your own ~ or go to Lowes and grab new paint color names for yourself. It’s also fine to engage in the usual non-themed TGIF jabber and link back. I’m easy.

Weird wet weather this week again here in SoCal. I’m so tired of dreary days and am ready for some sunshine, but sadly it looks like we’ll be getting drenched again next week. Naturally, the storms have triggered a raft of migraines, and I’ve been diligently managing those. I just discovered this week that the Rx medication I sometimes take for nausea with migraines (ondansetron) can cause headaches. LOL.

Oops, it’s St. Patrick’s Day, isn’t it? I should have used green colors for my ‘ku. Oh well, too late now! If you celebrate, have fun. I probably will just go to the office and come straight home, since my partying days are waaay in the past, and the idea of going out after work and drinking a green beer or whatever is simply too exhausting to contemplate. I didn’t have pie for pi day either. I’m so boring.

Haiku inspired by some paint colors here and dedicated to those in Ian’s path.

Emberglow

autumn leaves

Summer slips out softly,
Leaving a trail of emberglow.
Warm memories of golden days
Will be savored like drops of honey
Sweetening steaming tea
When the chill winds swirl in.
Shadows lengthen on the walls
And nights grow long again,
But in my mind’s photo album
We are forever young,
Plucking seashells from the sand
And waiting for something
To begin.

I decided to start using paint chip names for poetic inspiration again, though not necessarily on Fridays as I did previously (still using my PCF tag just because). These will happen whenever the mood strikes and an image from my library calls out for some new lines. I’m using the wall of colors from Sherwin-Williams. Join me if you like.

Welcome to my Friday afternoon paint chip prompt. There are other paint chip prompts out there, but they’re very precise in what they ask for. Mine is open ~ write a poem, a story, a memory, whatever you like. Take your inspiration this week from Valspar’s “midnight forest” and/or “December starlight.” Tag your post Paint Chip Friday, or PCF, if you wish. Prompt will continue until December 31. The end! Thanks to all who participated.

PCF17: Winter Dawn

Ice bubble frost

The warmth of fall has disappeared,
As we greet this winter dawn.
Our breath freezes in the air
When we try to speak
Of things gone wrong.
Delicate frost coats the glass;
Looking out, looking in,
It’s all the same:
An impenetrable blizzard of blame.
Anger ices over this place…
Glaciers of misunderstanding
Impossible to navigate.

PCF16: Mermaid’s Song

Surrender to the mermaid’s song;
Listen to her voice sublime.
Your life has been a constant fight—
Oh, my dear, I know you’re tired.
This lullaby shall soothe your fire;
Rest now on this greenest isle.
The war will find you ere too long;
Sleep now under blue moonlight.

PCF15: Stardust Evening

Stars planet car

I drove until the road turned gold
And magic brushed the dusted gloam
With silver swirls on a velvet sky;
Every dream was mine to hold
On that stardust evening divine.

PCF14: Island Salsa

rainbow dance planets kaleidoscope

Nobody knows what happened here…
What are these photos on my phone?
I doubt I will return next year.

Too much sun plus too much beer—
Temptation won’t leave me alone.
Nobody knows what happened here.

Island salsa on the pier?
Normally past my comfort zone…
Maybe I could return next year.

Inhibitions tend to disappear;
Common sense has also flown.
Nobody knows what happened here.

I blame it on the atmosphere;
I blame it on your musk cologne—
I hope you will return next year.

Your seductive grin is so sincere
I think I need a chaperone—
Nobody knows what happened here.
Hell yeah, I will return next year!

PCF13: Tsunami Sky

sky

You said you had to find yourself
By leaving me for someone else;
Along your journey you discovered
One mistake leads to another.
You watched the wild tsunami sky
And felt swept back to my side,
But after you had gone away,
New love blossomed in your place.
