Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the TMP tag, link back to me (or not), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen. I have feelings!
Wow, only a couple more peeves until 2021… and then a whole new year of peevery shall commence. Pretty exciting, no? Okay, so let’s get on with it. Today’s peeve is about things I like… and then they disappear or change form. Not talking about dating, but stuff in the grocery store. It’s so annoying! Years ago I discovered muffaletta (delicious chopped olive mix) and fell in lurve. Over time, it became harder to find until it ghosted altogether. Suddenly, there was olive tapenade everywhere, but that is not the same! Those olives are like pulverized. Muffaletta has pieces of olives; it’s not pureed into mush. The other month I found some and was in heaven… and now it’s gone again. WAAAH! I see it’s available online, but for insane prices. I just want the normal muffaletta for a reasonable price. 😦 This has happened with other foods I love, such as Oreo ice cream. When it first came out, it had luscious cookie pieces in it ~ so large you could taste the middle! But now? It’s all pulverized into nothingness. Meh!
Dr. Tanya continues her 5Things prompt series by asking us to name our favorite guilty pleasure foods. 😋
Disclaimer: I try not to think of foods as bad or good because of eating disorder issues. I don’t want to feel guilty if I eat something yummy and then spiral into believing I’m a bad person for it. That’s a recipe for disaster. However, in general, there are foods I try to limit because even though they are tasty, I want to stay healthy.
1. Ooey gooey pizza!
2. Five Guys mushroom cheeseburger with extra crispy fries!
Dr. Tanya continues her prompt series by asking us to list our 5 favorite foods that are good for us too.
Blueberries (1) and mango (2). These sweet, delicious fruits contain Vitamin C, potassium, antioxidants, and other nutrients.
Besides being yummy, avocado (3) has loads of vitamins, minerals, and healthy fat.
Sweet potatoes (4) are full of vitamins, minerals, and healthy fiber. They are also super tasty and an excellent vehicle for other veggies!
Eggs (5) are a great source of protein and can be cooked in all sorts of versatile ways.
I know it seems like I eat only cookies and cake, but in fact I rarely do. I just like talking about them. Any of the above healthy noms are more likely to appear on my plate. 😋 Not the kittens obv, though a feline or two is usually lurking about…
Rory’s done it again, peeps ~ given us 12 wacky questions, that is! Please note that my title reflects only how many “12 Bloggerz” I have participated in, not how many exist. 😜
1. When not specifically following ‘set’ directions everyone has a favourited direction they prefer to walk in – which is yours left or right and why do you think you always want to go that direction first?
Right. Because I’m right. Also, I’m right-handed. In Australia, I’d likely go left… and probably be bitten by some nasty venomous creature. 🐍
2. What’s the creepiest thing that has ever happened to you – irrelevant to your personal beliefs – just something that creeped you out – and yet you simply couldn’t explain it?
All this grey hair and cellulite lately… what is happening omg?!
3. Who are your top five actors/actresses and what is special about them to you?
Robert DeNiro, Meryl Streep, Al Pacino, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock. They’re great, that’s why.
4. Which prompts do you participate in weekly with your blog – please list?
I host the Monday Peeve and Thursday Inspo. I almost always participate in Jim Adams’ Song Lyric Sunday, Melanie’s Share Your World, Fandango’s Provocative Question, and Linda’s SOC Saturday. Other prompts I do as time and mood permit.
5. Have you taken the 16 Personalities Test and if so – what Personality Type are you and how accurate is it to you? Free Personality Test
I just took it, not realizing it was a Meyers-Brigg thing. Again, I confirmed I’m an INFJ. Supposedly, this is the rarest type ~ the Advocate. Some of the description fits me and some doesn’t. I am introverted and passionate and picky, but I have no interest in any of the “helping” careers. They have way too much contact with people.
6. Are you easily embarrassed – when was the last time for you?
Yes. Too embarrassed to say…
7. Has anything shocked you in the last 6 weeks to the point where you have gasped out aloud – if so what was it and if not, then when was the last time you were terribly shocked by something?
Yes, last week at my daughter’s. We thought we saw a giant bug on her wall, but it was just two spiders tangled up. 🕷🕷
8. If you have one what is your signature dish and if you don’t have one what would you love to be able to cook wonderfully well?
I like to make layered bean dip for parties.
9. Strangest or wildest place you ever had the most amazing sex in or on maybe, even around …….?
10. Why is it healthy to flirt with people you have no intention of doing the naughty with and how often do you flirt with people you know or even don’t know?
Because flirting can be creative and fun. I don’t do much of it these days though.
11. Can you list 9 things that you can ride in, on or with?
My smile for this week is that after being super extra careful all month, I drove alone 7 hours Tuesday to spend Thanksgiving with my daughter and her husband. It’s just the 3 of us (plus pets) and I’m having a great time. Last year, I flew up here and we spent the day with lots of other people, which was wonderful ~ nevertheless, I am so grateful I get to be with some family. (I will see my other daughter mid-December.)
Four years ago, my Thanksgiving week was depressing because I had just been dumped by a man I’d been dating. We’d planned to spend the day together (and do fun stuff the whole weekend)… then poof it was over. My younger daughter saved me from being totally alone by changing her plans and having a festive meal with me. We picked up a magnificent veggie feast from Native Foods. I was so thankful not to have to be alone when I felt so down. I haven’t dated anyone since then, and that seems to be the best way for me because I’m a total idiotat choosing which men to date.
I’m only humanthough, and I still sometimes think… what if? But unlike 10 years ago when I was newly single, I can answer that question by recalling my bad experiences since. I learned a lot from these episodes and there’s no reason to believe that a new foray into the field would have different results. This year especially has reminded me that I’m not only fine on my own, but I actually do better when not obsessing over what some random man thinks. I know other women date without getting so emotionally wrought up… but I’m not them. I tend to go to extremes…
I used to believe that the only good path was to have a partner to plan the future with, but life has a way of wrecking our plans and expectations (see year 2020). While I may not be totally footloosedue to physical and financial limitations, I find it freeing that my future will be for me to choose, whenever and however I decide to make changes. For example, I don’t know exactly what I want to do or where I want to live post-retirement, but I get to decide that without having to consider what someone else wants.
Onto a more important topic: what will we be eating today? Welp, it’s not going to be the usual turkey and gravyfeast, since there are only 3 of us here and 2 don’t like turkey. We are basically having sides, including baked sweet potatoes, mushroom stuffing, pasta, etc. We’ve already dived into the pie, and though there’s a bunch left (huge Costco pie), I’m thinking we might bake some cookies…
Have a sweet day, my peeps, however you’re celebrating or even if you aren’t. While I understand the historical reasons some may not think of today as something to be happy about, it can be soothing to take the time to be thankful for the good in our lives.
Milk was the last thing I put in my fridge. I’m not having cookies… but I did nom up some PB cups earlier. Yum! I took out the milk to splash in my tea and then put it back. Black tea with orange spice is my tea of choice at the mo, and I do drink it at night, though I’ll switch to herbal for my last cup of the day, around 10pm. Caffeine does not affect my sleep. In general, I don’t have insomnia ~ but it can take me a while to wind down. Other times, I’m completely sleepy by 11pm. And I will get up early even when I go to bed late. Usually, I’ll sleep solidly once I’m out unless Gatsby starts howling like a maniac. 🐈⬛
Not everyone puts milk in tea. I didn’t use to, but then in my 20s plain tea began to make me queasy, especially on an empty tummy. So does coffee. Easy fix: add milk! But there are a lot of choices. I tried to like non-dairy milk, but I failed. (At work, I have Coffee Mate.) In tea, nonfat milk tastes best, but in coffee I like whole milk or even half & half. However, the fattier milks in tea are gross. I compromise with 2%, since I’m not buying 2 different kinds of milk for one person. Two percent is also best on the rare occasions I eat cold cereal.
Melanie has plucked some questions from the weird zone and offered them to us this week in a crazy bouquet. 💐
1. Is cereal soup? Why or why not?
Cereal is not soup, whether either is hot or cold. Soup is a liquid, while cereal is a solid. Some cereals can become liquidy if you add milk or water, but grain itself is not a liquid.
2. What are some interesting ways to answer everyday questions like “how’s it going” or “what do you do”?
How’s it going? It’s gone! What do you do? Depends on the price…
3. What was your favorite toy growing up?
I loved Super Spirograph, puzzles, and Barbies. Caveat: I liked the Barbies of yesteryear when you had a few dolls and the fun was buying new outfits and accessories for them. Today, it’s not like that. Dolls come prepackaged to a theme, with everything included. You buy a new doll/package for a new theme. It takes away from creativity. I used to improvise stuff for Barbie scenes, crochet rugs for her house, find teeny play pets, etc. This is the Barbie from the year I was born. Find yours!
3. If you have a pet, and you could ask it three questions, what would you ask?
Why are you so loud? Why do you have to chase the other kitty until she swats you? Why don’t you bury your poop?

What’s one simple thing society at large could do to improve our world?
Lily Tomlin said “one ringy dingy, two ringy dingy” on Laugh-In when she played a sarcastic telephone operator. Later, I saw Lily Tomlin in a one-woman show and she was funny then too, though not crazy funny like on Laugh-In. One of the skits that sticks out in my mind was when she said she always wanted to be a Howard Johnson’s waitress, riffing on the trope of waitresses who are dying to become actresses, I guess. Then again, Howard Johnson’s was pretty awesome… we went there on our driving vacations when I was a kid. I used to get Ipswich clams, and I still don’t know what they are or why they’re different from regular clams. Their blueberry pancakes with sausage links were yummy too. I also loved Lily in 9 to 5 with Dolly Parton and Jane Fonda. Super funny movie. Of course, Jane is great in her role on Grace and Frankie ~ with Lily Tomlin costarring! Not sure if Dolly makes an appearance on that show. Anyway, I had an Aunt Lily, who told risqué jokes, and my protagonist in Ghosted is named Lily. YES I AM STILL WORKING ON THAT NOVEL. In case you were wondering, which I’m sure no one is. I actually have been making good progress. This post is about rings though, so let’s get back on track. Besides telephones, fingers have rings and so do trees and also ring tailed lemurs. I’m not sure what a lemur is… some kind of monkey? Must google. But not now. Now I’m just streaming. There was a song about putting a ring on it, which I think means that if a man is interested in a woman, he should propose marriage to her. That makes sense, but then again it doesn’t really. It’s not like there’s a stigma in having multiple relationships before marriage any longer, so why can’t someone be interested for a short time and then move on without the other party turning into a psycho? On the other hand (the one without a ring, just saying), if your goal is to find a life partner, you don’t want to waste time with players. People should be honest about their intentions and goals. That said, it’s really bothering me about the clams, so I’m ending this now in order to google. Will look up lemurs too. It’ll be a whole Animal Kingdom google palooza…
