I wanted to learn about my fate,
Which seemed to be all cattywampus,
So I listened to a psychic bloviate,
But that gave me the collywobbles
And I was forced to absquatulate.
She called me later about my stars,
Constructing quite the brouhaha
About a freak storm percolating;
Then I asked her about her rate
And she bumfuzzled me with poppycock.
At least give me a newbie discount,
I pleaded with this flibbertigibbet,
Offering up a taradiddle
About a vet bill for my fox–
She disbelieved this malarky
And said I owed a hefty fee,
At which point I let the matter drop.
I walked to the bank to get some cash,
Feeling like a great big nincompoop
Because it was raining dogs and cats,
And I forgot my bumbershoot.

Any time I can read poetry with brouhaha, nincompoop and bumbershoot in the same poem, I am ecstatic. Great writing Paula. Really well crafted too, I note the careful meter and rhyme. Brava!!

What a great poem with perfect rhythm, Paula! Well done! And these words are so much fun: cattywampus, collywobbles, and brouhaha! ๐ฅฐ

Thank you! I looked them all up because I didn’t know most on the list and that was fun in itself!

Paula, I’m sorry it took me so long to reply; I had to keep rereading this because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I kept thinking I was overly tired and was not processing it properly, but I was! This is absolutely amazing! I can honestly say, I never thought I’d read a poem with ANY of these words in it, let alone 11 of them! Exquisite! Thank you for participating!

I’m truly glad you enjoyed it. I thought it would make most people’s heads explode, and you come in and say, “oh yeah? Hold my beer,” and make a poem. Amazing ๐คฉ๐ฅฐ๐

Had to look some words up. I live in a very rainy part of the world so was delighted to learn a bumbershoot is an umbrella ๐ ๐

I knew that one from romance novels, but most of the others were new to me ๐
