Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.
I get so annoyed when sites auto refresh as I’m in the middle of reading or scrolling. The WP app reader does it and it drives me nuts. Why did anyone think this was a good idea? I have to waste time finding my place again so I don’t miss anything. It’s so unnecessary when you can easily refresh the site yourself if you want the latest stuff. YouTube does this too, and it’s so inconvenient when I am looking for painting tutorials. GRRRR!

Totally agree!! It’s a pain.

Not sure if there is any other explanation for this except someone in design thought it would be cool, and it’s just another example of doing something just because you can.
Or to switch ads or something which makes more sense,

I totally agree. That is almost like the games you can play that are “free”. I am playing this one and every minute or so it goes to a “commercial”. Don’t say it’s free if I have to pay with my time watching advertisements.

Totally agree! That’s why I finally paid for the NYT games and gave up all the others. No ads!!! That’s worth five bucks a month to me 🙂

There used to be a brand that had tons of computer games and I did the same thing…bought it so I could play in peace.

My reaction to those ‘updates’ is predictable, “Who do they think they are deciding what I ought to do and when I should do it?!” It’s a ‘freedom’ thing that seems to run deeply with me. lol

You mean when Microsoft decides your OS needs an update the very moment you are trying to use Google Maps? (Or Apple)

Oh yeah. I get bounced around the screens too, and what a surprise, nearly always end up on their page for upgrades and premium sites. I use the back arrow which usually puts me where i was.

Did anyone notice there’s a new function in the WP “block” function? It’s called “styles” and I have NO idea what it does, but it is stuck plop in the middle. The least they could do is explain a completely new function so you don’t look at it and say “HUH? What the hell is THAT?” when they’ve dumped it into your format page. It’s SO aggravating.

I’m quite annoyed by the auto-refresh too! I also hate when I’m watching a show and the app suddenly can’t remember where I left off and so I’m left trying to remember what episode I was on by myself! So annoying.
