TMP67: August

TMP monday peeve kitty cat

Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.

Today is the first day of August, and the whole month is just a hot pile of peeve. The worst thing is that there are no official US holidays in August. I mean, really, what is up with that? A sticky, icky month, kids off school, most business slowed, and they can’t give us a measly 3-day weekend to hang out at the pool or beach? Geez! Well, I showed THEM (whoever THEY are) and took every Friday off this month, nyah. I don’t know if I’ll go to the pool or beach, but like whatever. I can if I wanna. And I’ll have more time to blog! More time to read my bingo genres! More time to click through all my TV channels and b!tch that I can’t find anything good to watch. Hurrah.

No, I’m not planning on working on my novel/s, short stories, long short stories, or any other thing that’s been waiting unfinished forever in my cloud of meh. August is not a time for creativity; it’s a time to feel inadequate in a swimsuit and eat too much ice cream regardless. This is what we do in August while we dream of crisp cool evenings, pumpkin spice everything, and how soon it’ll be January 1 of a brand new year and life will be different then.

Except it will be the same, or worse. Probably worse.

  1. Eh, I’m not loving Aug 1, but I think Dec 31/Jan 1 is so much worse. Jan 1 is everyone humblebragging about how awesome they were in the previous year and about their resolutions to be even more amazing in the following year. I get that last year, I was in a particularly bad mood due to bad life decisions in 2021 and COVID (https://jewishyoungprofessional.wordpress.com/2022/01/02/secular-new-years-sucks-more-than-rosh-hashanah-this-is-not-an-inspirational-post/) but, having made more bad decisions in 2022, I’m already not looking forward to Jan 1, 2023. Aug 1 is just hot and gross. Jan 1, the people are gross.

  2. Sounds very much like August is a good time to slow things down and refresh, regroup. I agree with that.
And yes l vote for an “optional” civic holiday in August in the US, like your neighbors up north here in Canada ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

  5. Just searching for my nano-violin! You get 11 holidays a year, we only get 8, so I don’t really feel your August pain, sorry. One of ours is at the end of this month (today if you’re in Scotland) and we don’t get any more until Christmas. Time to count your blessings, perhaps? ๐Ÿคฃ

Way to stick it to THEM! Not the nonbinary Them, but the nebulous, fun-sucking THEM (politicians mostly, I think ๐Ÿค”)
I suggest ice cream AND cupcakes! Live it up! Go wild!

  9. I agree. August needs a holiday. Why hasn’t someone thought about that?

  13. Meanwhile, over in Europe, people aren’t taking off a mere four Fridays for August, but a whole four weeks. Now, there’s a peeve for you!
