Unbounded Dreams

purple thunderstorm lightning

I never was the girl
Who ran outside in a thunderstorm,
When the sky purpled with rage
And the wind howled in pain.
Instead, I closed doors,
Hid inside a blanket fort,
Surrounded by novels and cake.
I kept my world small,
But my dreams…
Oh, how they soared!
Unbounded,
A kaleidoscope–
They glittered with hope.
And nothing has changed:
I am still that same girl,
Recoiling from rain,
Dreaming safe in a cozy cocoon–
Don’t expect me anytime soon.
