TGIF ~ Meds, Monitors, and Murders

happiness cats

Happy Friday!

I’m so grateful that sumatriptan exists and that it actually knocks out a migraine every time (eventually). Many migraineurs aren’t so lucky. Some have no meds that consistently work; others get such awful migraines they can’t function. It’s rare that I’m so affected I can’t function, especially if I take meds early on during an attack. Recently, though, I did have super bad pain that I foolishly went to sleep with, sans meds. The worst of it struck in the middle of the night with the whole range of symptoms ~ light aversion, disorientation, rapidly pounding pulse, and vomiting. It took a while for the suma to work, but it finally did, and I was so thankful to the scientists who discovered that this epilepsy drug works well for some migraineurs too. I don’t know what I’d do without it. Again, today, I needed it when I woke up. Generally, I feel the worst first thing in the morning, even when I get decent sleep.

Last week, I went through the fridge and threw every salty thing away after my “bad” blood pressure reading. I also bought a BP monitor. Well, each reading I’ve had so far is in the green “good” zone, except one, which was right after coffee in the morning ~ same as the day I went to the doc’s. So that’s sorted. I guess I can stop exercising now… like I was exercising, haha. Actually, I did a few times. I would like to say that I’ve reaped side benefits from eating fresh healthy food for 10 solid days, such as better sleep and glowing skin and tons of energy, but nope. I am the exact same tired, achy person I was when I ate a frozen dinner every day and snacked on sugary crap. In any case, I’m super grateful that I don’t seem to have a BP problem… yet. Also, I love pizza and other salty things! In moderation, of course.

I recently watched Ophelia on AMC and it was fabulous. If you can watch this movie, I highly recommend it ~ the acting and the costumes are first-rate, plus I enjoy a reimagined story. (Look for next Monday’s Peeve though to find out what I think of AMC otherwise, lol.) Also, on Hulu, the second season of Only Murders in the Building is starting off fantastic! Like Fandango, I wish the whole season was available to binge. There’s nothing else I like on Hulu, so I’ll probably cancel it after Murders. Prime still seems to have the best variety of movies and tons to choose from in each category. But of course I’ll have to subscribe to HBO soon to get House of the Dragon…

I’m looking forward to a quiet weekend at home with the kitties. How about you?

  1. Migraines are the worst! I used to have 3-4 /week and had to carry an imatrex pen with me. Fortunately, I rarely get them anymore!

  2. Yesterday I had a migraine starting but like you, if I catch it at the start I can usually avoid it getting really bad. I think mine was from dehydration. I had been traveling. At the airport I knocked over my water….Have a good weekend!

  5. As far as “healthy” food, I get confused when my doctor says I shouldn’t eat certain things because I have high cholesterol, and yet when he prescribed a statin drug and I said I would instead just watch my diet, he said that won’t help–cholesterol is produced inside the body. So, why am I not eating eggs?
I’d like to know how much money, total, is made off of statin drugs. However, like you, I have medicine that you might say literally saves my life every day (OK, that’s a bit of a stretch, but not much) and I’m glad someone figured out how to make it.
I had one migraine that I know of, and it was terrible. I’m sorry for you but glad you have figured out a way to deal with it at least to some degree.

  6. So glad you found a drug that works for you. I haven’t had a “bad” migraine attack in years but oh my I remember them … vividly. Take care

  7. I’m afraid salt is one thing I crave. I can do without other things I used to crave and try to substitute with healthy alternatives. If the fresh veg and fruit were readily available, no problem, but since I have groceries delivered it’s a toss up.

  8. I’m sorry you had another migraine. I don’t know if my headaches really count as migraines, although they do make me throw up sometimes and generally stop me functioning. Fortunately, they do tend to respond well to ordinary painkillers.

My parents also bought a blood pressure monitor after Mum’s recent heart attack. We probably mostly have low blood pressure, which brings its own problems.

    • Yes, LBP can make us very lethargic ~ I had it in my 30s. Your headaches do sound like migraines, particularly if the pain in mostly on one side & you are light-sensitive as well 😞

  9. Yes! Thank you for Sciencey Stuff Peeps for giving us drugs that make the ouchies go away!! I’m glad you have good drugs too! I wish mine weren’t tied up with government interferes… but that’s a soapbox for another day

My BP has been being weird lately. It was in the high range for a long time, but it pretty much stayed at the same numbers, so that was my “normal”. Now it’s all lower and in the good range, but sometimes it’s super low🤷🏼‍♀️ for no reason. Younger says I’m a mutant🤷🏼‍♀️😂😂

Big Plans this weekend 🥳🥳 Couch Sittin, being a good peasant to HRH, and driving Daughter back & forth to work.
    I know you’re jealous, don’t even say you’re not😝
