TMP63: Rulebreakers

TMP monday peeve kitty cat

Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.

I’m writing this on Sunday night, and tomorrow is July 4, a holiday off from work for many Americans (though not all). I’m not going to complain (again) about fireworks as they actually haven’t been that bad this year, though ideally there would be zero amateur ones going off in a time of drought. No, I’m here to bitch about the people yelling in the pool/jacuzzi. The pool closes at 10pm every night, no exception for holidays. But for some reason, tonight some folks have decided that they don’t have to obey the rules, and they’re still downstairs yelling and drinking now at 10:30pm.

Have you ever noticed that the more people drink, the louder they get? It’s a strange phenomenon. I’m not going to pretend I want to go to sleep, because it’s too early for me, but others might. Rulebreakers never care about inconvenience to others though; they’re simply all about their own selfish pleasures. There is no real enforcement of the pool rules, only an honor system, where the HOA supposes that people won’t want to be assholes to their neighbors. We have a lot of elderly people here and some babies too. There are also working folks, such as cops and nurses, who might actually have to get some sleep tonight in order to be on the job bright and early tomorrow. (Note: I don’t know for a fact that there are cops or nurses living here, but there could be.)

There may be a compelling reason to break a rule, but partying loudly into the night and disturbing an entire community because tomorrow is the 4th isn’t it. Naturally, I expect the same inconsiderate jerks to do it again tomorrow night (tonight), when I will need to go to sleep at a reasonable hour and get up for work on Tuesday.

  3. My peeve is dog owners who walk their pets leave their pee and poop everywhere too lazy to actually walk a few feet to the actual designated area. There are so many dogs here at this complex you would think it was a shelter. Barking, howling, etc and I’ve decided to complain. It’s summer heat and I would like to go out on my patio without smelling their leavings. I don’t think small dogs are so cute I want to see them in stores like babies or have them in laps at restaurants. Why do people assume everyone wants to have their dog sniff their legs etc? Gross! I’m thinking of putting a sign on my personal patio area saying something about keep your pets away but what good if any would that do except make it worse? πŸ™„πŸ˜‘

  5. People have been acting like Neanderthals since…well, since they were Neanderthals, but I peg that the start of our current bane of baseness was when idiots started blabbing at regular volume in movie theaters, during the show. This included talking back to the characters onscreen, asking their seat-mate “what’s he going to do?” or “why did she do that?” Whispering went down the history hole with curiosity. I could on on, but first must buy a mallet, so that the next time—on a plane, train, bus or at Safeway or a funeral—some Einstein bombards me (and everyone within five yards) by honking into his/her cellphone loud enough to make an echo, I can (a) give the clod my best Richard Widmark icy stare and (b) use the mallet to smash their little electronic marvel into a thousand silent smithereens, which will also cast their stockpile selfies into oblivion. You know why your Mom liked John Wayne? I think I do.

  6. Is it odd that to celebrate the birth of our country we are given license to act like a**holes? Oh. Wait. Don’t answer that.

  8. That is annoying to have the inconsiderate partiers who get louder and louder

And the fireworks were not too bad here either!
Oh and my annoyance for today? Hmmm – maybe folks who laugh at other people – yesterday at church we had a be-yotch snicker at someone in a condescending way – it was the third time I saw her do this since January so this time I sorta spoke up.
I just said (firmly) “excuse me?” Paused and rhen “are you laughing at her right now”?
No answer but the mood changed and a little respect for her showed up
    Sigh

  10. Inconsiderate bar stewards. I had to ask the couple opposite to turn down the bass of their music when they had a BBQ as it was making our floor vibrate. They were not impressed, and moved out just before Covid hit. We thought they’d gone on holiday and got stranded in the chaos, but a few weeks later we had new neighbours. They had visitors and would be talking into the early hours. Thankfully no music or piercing laughter, but voices carry in a quiet road, which made us glad our bedrooms are at the back of the house. Now the house is sold, but as to whether we’ll have new people is anyone’s guess as we thought the place was a rental. I hope they move though because their dog is the one forever getting out or barking every time someone walks by.

  12. It’s so sad that people fail to follow rules in life. Those same rulebreakers would be the first to complain if as they say, ‘the shoe was on the other foot’.

  13. I agree with you. A party or celebration is nice but the level of noise should be people friendly or go inside of your home. Great Pet Peeve …

  14. They always put the pool/jacuzzi in the middle too so all that concrete just echos the noiseπŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ If people wanna sit QUIETLY past 10pm, whatever… but there is no common courtesy anywhere anymore. People seem to have quit even trying to pretend the care about their neighborsπŸ™„πŸ€¦πŸΌβ€β™€οΈ

  17. As I recall, the film “Eating Raoul” has a terrific solution to just such a problem. It involved some kind of electrical appliance.

  18. I have generally found that many people have simply stopped bothering to care about politeness and etiquette when it comes to manners and other people’s concerns and feelings. Living on a high traffic street as l do here in Sandwich with an Indian Takeaway Restaurant literally just across the street, pubs up the road, delivery drivers parking up, a busy town with people most nights and especially on the weekends not giving a rat’s arse about anyone who might happen to be a resident in the town.

The more they drink, the louder they become, the louder they become the more manic – at times l would gleefully Harley Quinn the lot of them …. πŸ™‚
