Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.
I’m really peeved about my sunburn. Look, I know I have fair, sensitive skin. I’ve been burnt in the past. So I put on a ton ~ a TON ~ of sunscreen before going to the park yesterday for a concert, and yet I still got lobsterized. My friends who were there the same amount of time as I was… are perfectly fine. It’s just me. And sunburn is upsetting for a few reasons. First, it’s super unhealthy. Second, it takes a long time to heal. Third, it hurts! I feel it’s not fair that other people can be in the sun and not get burnt the way I do. I want to file a complaint with God or the universe or someone who will put an end to this injustice. Not that I blame the sun. It’s not the sun’s fault for just sitting there blazing away in the middle of the day. Nope. It’s some curse that has been put upon me and me alone. Well, maybe others suffer this same issue, idk. But I want justice! GRRR!

I hate peeling after a sunburn, but at the same time, I’m kind of gross and there is something strangely satisfactory about peeling off bits of skin, even if it makes me look like a diseased snake.

That’s a seriously peeved cat. Ok, I was a bit peeved when I noticed the new guest in my accommodation sitting down to breakfast today. Because nobody offered to make ME any. Maybe his room came with brekkie and mine didn’t…. grumble grumble

The one and only time I used sunscreen I got sunstroke and was violently ill. Hubby couldn’t get my temperature down, so threw me fully clothed into the shower and turned it on. I’ve never used it since and don’t go out into the sun unless I have to and then I’m covered up. Funnily enough I got some decent tans when we were on the boat!

I’ve been wanting justice since I was about 7yrs old and got a 2nd degree sunburn😭 I spent a week laying on a bed with my mother putting Noxema on me. No doctor, no nothing else… it was the 70s
I’m with you on this peeve my melanin challenged sister!! ✊️

Gah! Yes, we must unite against this unfairness! Oh, I remember getting burnt at Jones Beach around age 7 and getting the Noxema “treatment” too. Now I have aloe + lidocaine gel, which is marvelous. Wish I could immerse in a vat of it…

I think Jim’s suggestion is good. Aloe Vera is great for soothing and healing

Nature didn’t bless me with a lot of melanin, and what little I do have is concentrated in my eyes and hair, so I can turn into a smoky link with remarkable ease. I have to stay out of the sun between 9am and 3pm — easy enough when the weather is hot and humid and I don’t feel like going outside anyway, but kind of a nuisance when it’s nice out. Meanwhile, my husband never burns — just gets a nice even tan. Unfair.
(P.S. If you have any lavender essential oil, that’s good for healing burns.)

This is totally not the point of your post, but I think lobsterized is my new favorite word now 🙂 I am sorry though, sunburns suck

https://sparksfromacombustiblemind.wordpress.com/2022/06/22/tmp-on-weds-6-22-2022/ It’s not YOUR fault either Paula. You did the correct thing by slathering yourself in sunscreen, it’s the manufacturer of the sunscreen which seem to put any old SPF in their bottles, regardless of what the bottle is labeled with. I’ve used 250+ sunscreen, because, like you, I crisp up at the hint of sun. Now I wear a light weight ‘throw” or something that swaddles me in cloth from head to toe. Is it hotter that way? Yep. But usually the only casualties are my ears and neck sometimes. An umbrella doesn’t hurt either, although you might get teased for using one. I’d rather be teased about it than burn. Take care and remember that a bath in tepid water with a generous amount of baking soda mixed in soothes the burn and provides a bit of relief. Best wishes!

Thank you Melanie! I just ordered a lightweight coverup for next time I’m outdoors for a while. And I’m going to be a lot more careful to stay in the shade. You’re right ~ I switched brands and this one sucks!
