TMP60: WP App

TMP monday peeve kitty cat

Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.

OK, so you knew this was coming, right? I mentioned that I downloaded the WP app again and it was much better than before. But! It still sucks. Last week, I wrote to the “Happiness Engineers,” and I received a courteous reply immediately, which was refreshing. They supposedly “reset” my connection to WordPress (whatever that means) so that my reader would quit skipping posts, and it’s somewhat better, but it’s still skipping some as of last Wednesday, including my own on Friday! (Yes, I follow myself to see how my posts look in readers.)

It’s super frustrating because I only know of the posts it skipped when I discover them via another blogger’s response, but, as they say, I don’t know what I don’t know. So there could be loads of skipped posts I’m unaware of. Apologies if they’re yours and I haven’t been liking/commenting. Also, in my actual list of published posts in the app, my Friday flashback is missing, though it’s on my blog itself and can be found in my WordPress browser list of posts.

That’s not the only thing though. Images are still weird in the app reader just as they were years ago. It didn’t seem so at first, but yep… weird. Sometimes a post (including mine) will initially appear to have no image, but when I click into it, there’s an image. Why didn’t the preview generate? Saturday I did an SOCS post, and in the preview my shrimp bowl image from Friday appeared. The wrong image is not actually in the SOCS post though once I click into it. Just another dumb glitch.

I also wrote to the Happiness Engineer that I think each post should have immediately visible stats in the app just as in the browser, but the Happiness Engineer had no idea what I was talking about. You know what I mean, right? In your browser, if you click on your list of published posts, you can see each one’s performance to date (likes, comments, views). But you have to hunt for those stats in the app. Luckily, I don’t care that much about stats, but WHY can’t we have them the way we want them? Grrrr!

Stay tuned for more peevery!

  1. The posts not showing up in the Reader thing is weird. Sometimes they’ll show up later in the day and I’ll happen to be scrolling back through my feed and notice them.

  2. I have some of the same problems, but if posts don’t show up in my Reader, I assume that the blogger did not write anything.

  3. I have had another glitch this week. WP somehow decided that I had posted this week’s Tuesday Tunes post last Monday afternoon, which would have had the effect of moving it much further down the Reader, for people who find their posts there rather than using the email notification, as I do. This may not sound important, but likes and views for the post were noticeably fewer that usual, so I think it has had an effect. I’ll be checking they don’t mess up this week’s!

  4. Agree on most counts. I find the Reader version is odd and in emails the images don’t show up. I use images all the time to engage and explain my stories and having them missing is not good. I follow a lot of people in email including you and sometimes it says not found. I don’t like constant changes or pop ups when I’m writing either.

  5. You read about my peeve yesterday. I’ve gathered the info the WPHE want and am emailing them back in a minute. As if there wasn’t enough to monitor with WP between writing, reading, etc!

  7. I used to use the Reader as a feed, but never read from it. I always preferred to go to the actual site.

I had that weird off the page thing happen when I went to edit a link recently. Luckily, there was enough of the box for me to do what I wanted to do, but WP has never been frustration-free in my memory😡😤🤯

I noticed last night when I went to edit a picture that the newest version of my Android photo app “Gallery” has changed their editing tools🤦🏼‍♀️ I just wanted to get rid of a Sun spot from a picture of sunset, but couldn’t figure out how to do it 🤬 I wound up cropping it out, but why? WHY must these appy peeps fix stuff that isn’t broken?? WHY?!?!
