I put your picture away
Sat down and cried today
I can’t look at you
While I’m lying next to her
Once again, big thanks to our tuneful host of Song Lyric Sunday: Jim Adams. For today’s prompt, I chose “Picture,” a duet written by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow in 2002. Kid Rock also recorded a version with Allison Moorer, and each song has a different guitar solo.
I called you last night at the hotel
Everyone knows but they won’t tell
But their half-hearted smiles tell me
Something just ain’t right
Radio stations disregarded the fact that the version of the song with Sheryl Crow didn’t have permission to be released as a single, so it became known to their listeners. She was featured in the music video as well. And “Picture” was popular! It reached No. 4 on Billboard Hot 100 (the Sheryl version), and it peaked at 21 on Hot Country Songs (the Allison version).
I thought about you for a long time
Can’t seem to get you off my mind
I can’t understand
Why we’re living life this way
It’s a great song. Enjoy!
