TMP56: Rude Dog-People

TMP monday peeve kitty cat

Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.

I was in Los Angeles this past weekend and ~ ZOMG ~ there was poop everywhere. Dog-people! Pick up after your pets. As I was walking to the park with the fam, I actually saw a poop bag… on the ground. So there was someone who actually carried a poop bag, picked up their dog’s poop, and then… left the bag on the ground because they couldn’t bother putting it in a trash can. WTAF?????

Besides that, my daughter reports that people let their dogs off-leash in the parks designed for children where it explicitly says KEEP DOGS LEASHED. If you say something, they’ll go oh my lil Fluffykins won’t hurt anyone. First, they don’t actually know that. Second, there’s a first time for every dog bite (“he never bit anyone before!”), and third, lots of small children are scared when even a friendly doggie bounces up to them. Kids are LITTLE, yo, and dogs look larger to them than they do to adults. It’s up to parents to decide when and where and how their children will interact with dogs, not yours, stranger. You have no idea who the kids are and what medical conditions they may have or any previous trauma they may have suffered. Just obey the law, FFS.

Unfortunately, my grandchildren say they dislike dogs because of all the park incidents. That’s really a shame because most dogs are lovely and most owners are considerate. But it just takes one scary sitch to make an impression on a little kid. Rude dog-people are a super-peeve of mine, have been for ages, and are even more so now.

  1. I know I’ll get slammed for this opinion by some. I am a dog lover and a dog owner. In my opinion dogs should NEVER be off leash unless in a designated dog park. And I an not a fan of those either.

  3. The poop bag thing… UGH!! obviously no one wants to carry a bag full of poop around, but Jiminey Cricket! How difficult is it to tie it to the leash? That’s what I’ve always done. People!! 😡😤🤬

Even a super sweetie of a Dawgs, like my Big Dumb one could easily knock over a little kiddo or sniff them too much. He has a shepherd bark, so he sounds mean, even though he’s a big baby.

I still wouldn’t let him off leash unless he was at a designated dog park. Beside scaring kiddos who wanna play, who wants their toddler to face plant in a puddle of dog pee?? Gross!

  4. I used to have a friend who was a rude dog person. I went for walks with her sometimes and she would let the dog jump up on people. I was embarrassed to be with her.

  5. I also hate when people take their dogs into stores and restaurants. I realize some people have service animals, but I know all the dogs I see aren’t working.

  6. I hear you. The town’s pavements are full of crap where visitors don’t clear up after their pets.
Not only on the pavements, but in bags on the pavements, or bags hanging on bushes, or left on walls, poo by the bin, poo bag by the bin, poo bag on top of the bin, but the best has to be some idiot taking the bin off the stand and putting the bin over the poo!

  7. As a dog owner, I share your peeve about dog owners who don’t clean up after their pups and who let their dogs off leash outside of designated dog parks.

  9. “Bag and leave” and “My dog is the bestest” are sadly quite universal. I love dogs but am quite skeptical re dog owners. For the most part, where I live, the dog owners seem to be adulting well.

My (never met in person) half-sister breeds dogs and never takes them to dog parks because they are the worst place for so-called socializing. Also, dogs are like people, she says: Some are extroverts and love dog parks and meeting other dogs/people, while others are introverts and/or are really picky about who they interact with, whether two- or four-legged, and it is hell for them to be “introduced” to randos.

Respect your own dog. And other people.

  10. Just one more thing on a growing list that certain childish, self-centered people have discovered they can do without any consequences.

  11. That segment of the dog owner’s population are the same way about life as they are about cleaning up after their pets. It’s called “entitlement”. Should you confront the offender, you’ll get a blank look, a “who me?” attitude and possible be assaulted (verbally or physically) as a way of saying “Mind yer own business.” When the lawmakers wake the eff up and make it a crime to let the dogs shit where they will in public, then you’ll see change. Otherwise I doubt anyone will do a damned thing about it, save grumble when their Jimmy Choos are besmirched with Lil’ Fluffikins’ offering to the gods of recycling.

Ziggy is a do his business without interference dog, so my statement is a tad hypocritical. Two things though: I don’t let him shat in public if I can avoid it. If he does soil the public areas, it (mostly) gets picked up and discarded; but if he’s on home turf? He’s free to soil the grass all he likes. Nobody walks on the grass here, I think the HOA Secret Police would tar and feather anyone breaking that rule. Plus it’s MY yard. Someone who steps in dog crap on my lawn? What the hell are they doing on my lawn in the first place?? And Ziggy is a tiny dog, so his offerings are very small. The idiots who walk their dogs past my yard (German Shepherds, Giant Poodles, retrievers, hounds etc (any BIG dog comparatively) and let Poochie poop on my grass? Will get yelled at if they don’t take Poochie’s poo away with them. I don’t know what kind of diseases Ziggy might get from sniffing that crap. Not all pet owners are responsible. That’s the bottom line to the whole thing.
