Welcome to my April A-Z! I’m exploring songs by the fabulous Eagles and today’s feature is “New Kid in Town,” which was written by Don Henley, Glenn Frey (RIP), and J.D. Souther ~ it was the first single released from the Eagles 1976 album Hotel California. The song hit No. 1 in the US and No. 20 in the UK. Besides the three artists mentioned, Randy Meisner, Don Felder, and Joe Walsh were in the band at that time and participated on the song. Frey sang lead vocals and Henley sang main harmony vocals. NKIT won a Grammy Award for Best Vocal Arrangement for Two or More Voices.
In 2016, Rolling Stone rated NKIT as the fifth greatest Eagles song.
There’s talk on the street
It sounds so familiar
Great expectations, everybody’s watching you
People you meet
They all seem to know you
Even your old friends treat you like you’re something new
Johnny come lately, the new kid in town
Everybody loves you, so don’t let them down
You look in her eyes
The music begins to play
Hopeless romantics, here we go again
But after awhile
You’re lookin’ the other way
It’s those restless hearts that never mend
If this sounds familiar, it’s because I copied and pasted it from one of my Song Lyric Sunday posts. Hey, I don’t think that’s against the A-Z rules, lol. But I will give you some new trivia to chew on.
E-trivia: Souther initially wrote the chorus for NKIT, but he didn’t know what to do with it. When he played it for Henley and Frey as they were writing Hotel California songs, they helped him finish it. Henley says it’s about the fleeting nature of fame and that there will always be someone new coming into town to replace you (Wikipedia).

I wouldn’t worry about the A-Z rules, as I am sure nobody cares, as long as you write a good post, which this is. I wish that I could look into someone’s eyes and hear the music begin to play.

One of my faves!💃🏼🎶 I think it goes well with Tequila Sunrise. The song, not the drink. Well… maybe the drink too😂😂
This has been so much fun! I’m kinda bummed that we’re entering the back half☹

One of the best songs from one of the best albums ever, by anyone. It still sounds as fresh as when I first heard it.
