Well, I heard some people talkin’ just the other day
And they said you were gonna put me on a shelf
But let me tell you I got some news for you
And you’ll soon find out it’s true
And then you’ll have to eat your lunch all by yourself
Welcome to my April A-Z! I’m exploring songs by the fabulous Eagles and today’s feature is “Already Gone” from their 1974 album On the Border. This is one of the few Eagles songs not written by any of the band members ~ it was written by Jack Tempchin and Robb Strandlund, who were friends of the Eagles (source: Songfacts). Tempchin sent the song to Glenn Frey (RIP), who was just getting over a breakup. Frey sang lead vocals and there were two guitar solos, one by Frey and one by new Eagles member Don Felder. Don Henley was on drums, Bernie Leadon was on guitar, and Randy Meisner played bass. Henley, Leadon, and Meisner also did background vocals. “Already Gone” was the first single released from the album and it peaked at No. 32 on Billboard Hot 100. It’s popular with fans, and the Eagles play it at every live performance (source: Wikipedia).
The letter that you wrote me made me stop and wonder why
But I guess you felt like you had to set things right
Just remember this, my girl, when you look up in the sky
You can see the stars and still not see the light (that’s right)
E-trivia: Don Henley was born in Texas in 1947 and formed a band in high school named Shiloh. Fellow Texan Kenny Rogers discovered Shiloh, helped them get signed to a label, and brought the band to Los Angeles in 1970.

This is an awesome song to hear in a club, as it makes everyone go “who, hoo, hoo”. Every day I eat my lunch all by myself. I got knocked out one time and I saw the stars without seeing the light. Nice post Paula.
