Hypotheticals [fffc]

Mountain lake hikers

“What on earth would possess such a vibrant young woman to jump off a cliff?” Ned mused as he took in the beautiful view. “Even if she were depressed, simply hiking up here should have put Carolyn in a better mood. I know I feel great! How about you, Nancy?”

Nancy shrugged. “I feel good, but I don’t think you understand depression, Ned. It’s not cured by seeing a pretty lake. Carolyn had been spiraling down for months and her pride was completely destroyed when Curt walked out on her like that.”

“I’m glad you’re so much more grounded,” Ned said, unzipping his backpack. “Hypothetically speaking, if I were to serve you with divorce papers today, you certainly wouldn’t jump off this mountain, would you?”

“Of course not.” Nancy smiled at him. “I’d push you off. Oh look, a bald eagle!”

Ned quietly closed his backpack and focused his camera on the bird instead.

  1. It looks like he saved himself at that moment. Suspenseful story … good one. I’m sure it would be great if it was longer. I wanted to know what was going to happen next.
Off Topic: Depression is a horrific disease. People think its nothing but its huge. My 24 year old grandson commited suicide. Depression is painful for the person.
    Happy Writing, Paula.
