SLS: Lion

Thanks go out to Jim Adams, our tuneful host of Song Lyric Sunday. For today’s theme, I chose ”Little Lion Man” by the British band Mumford & Sons. This song was the lead single from their 2009 debut album Sigh No More. All tracks are listed as written by the band itself, though from in an interview with Marcus Mumford, it seems that he wrote the lyrics about a very personal experience he doesn’t want to discuss further. Fair enough.

The video is a wonderful collage of scenes from the HBO show Game of Thrones, where one of the major families, the Lannisters, has a lion as its sigil. Tyrion Lannister is depicted here as the “little lion man;” he’s the younger sibling of incestuous twins Jaime and Cersei, and he is a little person. Even though Tyrion (played brilliantly by Peter Dinklage) is often shown drinking and whoring, he’s actually the most moral of the bunch, along with being the smartest. And, yes, the GOT finale sucked, but I’ll give the prequel a shot because… dragons. You know you wanna see some dragons too!

  4. I have never watched Game of Thrones and I have heard what a great show it was. I did know some incestuous siblings, pretty weird. I liked your song a lot Paula.
