The Right Moment

I see you walking past the café every day and I know you’re looking for me, even if you don’t realize it. Fate has kindly brought you back into my life, and I wait for you to come in and order. I know what you’ll get too–decaf French roast with a dash of real cream. No sugar. You can’t have caffeine after 3PM because it’ll keep you up all night. I remember. I always paid attention, close attention. You didn’t think I cared about you enough, but that wasn’t true. I was waiting for the right moment. I was putting myself together like a puzzle, bit by bit, until I was perfect enough to bask in your radiance. But you didn’t have patience for that and left me. What great luck we’ve ended up in the same city, working on the same street! I even made a delivery to your office building when they had that big conference last week. You saw me but didn’t recognize me because you were busy and distracted. I noticed you though. I discovered your name and home address too. It won’t be long until we’re together just like I’ve always imagined. Tonight it’s raining, the streets smeared with light and shadow, and it’s the right moment for us to meet. I won’t let you get away this time.
