TMP13: Red Light Runners

TMP monday peeve

Welcome to my refreshed Monday Peeve! Unburden yourself of an annoyance and you’ll feel better afterward. Or not. Complain in my comments or crab in your own post. Doesn’t have to be on a Monday. You do you.

Today’s peeve is an oldie but a goodie: those asshats who run red lights. They’re so dangerous and scary, and so inconsiderate. Now, to be clear, I’m not talking about zipping through the intersection when the light turns yellow even though you have time to safely stop. I almost always stop then, unless I am a bit too close to the line. Plus with all the tailgaters, you don’t want to slam on your brakes. But I’m not talking about that! I’m talking about people who literally BEGIN their foray into the intersection AFTER the light turns red. I mean, WTF? I have seen it several times in this past week, both during my commute and on weekends. It’s worse than before the plague, or maybe I simply became used to empty streets. But no… I feel something else is happening. People are so damn eager to be out and about now that they can’t bear for anything to delay them by a couple seconds.

I think they should get jail time. Clearly tickets aren’t enough of a deterrent, even though they’re quite expensive. Nope. These selfish morons need to have something precious taken from them, and it’s the same thing they stole from us when they ran the red: time and peace of mind. A week in jail for every red light run. Boom.

  1. Such people are idiots of the highest order. Maybe jail time would cure them of this!

  3. Running red lights – at speed? Sure, jail time for vehicular homicide, because that’s what happens all too often when these entitled jerks think they are more important than anyone else.

  4. Lock them up, take away their licence and make them pay heavy fines.

  6. I mostly see red light runners making left turns, and I think at least some of that could be solved by more advance left turn signals so more than one or two cars could get through per green–yellow light span.

  8. Not many lights to run when living in the country. However, someone tailgating you when the speed limit is 65 is scary. They will be no time to break. These people pi$$ me off.

  11. I hate when people run red lights and there never seems to be a traffic cop in sight when they do.

    Here’s my peeve for today:

  12. Yeah, WTH is up with people?! I’ve noticed how the bad drivers have become horrible drivers! People rolling through stop signs without even tapping their brakes. And running red lights is SO dangerous. I always wait a few seconds after it turns green to make sure I don’t get T-Boned by the jerks.

And another driver related peeve of my own… people who don’t stop when a school bus has it’s lights flashing and their little stop sign out. Every morning and afternoon, I see people speeding past when Ben is getting on or off the bus. Occasionally there’s a cop around and the asshat gets a ticket, but it’s very rare.

I can kinda understand why Daughter is too terrified to drive.
