The Monday Peeve 63

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the TMP tag, link back to me (or not), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen. I have feelings!

Gonna complain about ads today. Not just any old ads. I get that we have to view ads to use free sites and I don’t have a problem with that. But some are simply too obnoxious to bear. When I’m playing some of the games via FB, I see one ad in particular that drives me nuts. It’s for a movie called Chaos Walking, and it’s the longest ad I’ve ever seen, maybe two minutes of dumb scenes from this irritating movie THAT I WILL NEVER WATCH NOW DUE TO THEIR IRRITATING ADS. Of course I’m giving them free publicity here on my peeve, but I don’t care. The movie looks dumb anyway and none of my readers would watch it. Pffft!

Short ads are good. Funny ads are okay (once or twice). LONG ADS ARE BAD.

It’s not that complicated…

  1. Long ads are bad, no doubt.

  2. Long adverts do of course provide an opportunity to make a fresh coffee (or other beverage of your choice). The Monday peeve for me is that the weather regularly changes from a dreich weekend to a sunny Monday and with homeworking courtesy of the current pandemic no opportunity for a journey out and about as my commute is at most 100m. (As an aside I always end up soaked at some point on my morning commute these days).

  3. Imagine that you had four seconds to persuade someone to *not* click on the “skip ad” button.

    1. What would you say?

    2. What could you sell them in the following thirty seconds?

    3. Cha’ching!

  4. Everyday I hear commercials that say you have till December 7th to change your Medicare coverage, but why are there so many ads for Medicare coverage, as they are constantly bombarding me.

  5. I can’t stand most ads anywhere the show up. Exception if there is a cat in it. haha!
My peeve would be why can I not play Candy Crush Soda or Jelly on FB – always get a technical error that will be fixed soon, but it’s been over a month now. Boooooo on them!

  6. And right here on WP, email ads for their new “deal” are driving me crazy.

  7. I find something productive to do while the ad is playing. And I silence my phone.

  8. I actually cut off my satellite due to that very issue. Now I don’t have to endure the endless blah blah of the ads, and the games I play on-line, if they’re riddled with ads, I don’t stay loyal very long. I now have a few that are ad-free. I totally agree with the points you made! Ads (can) suck!

  11. Long ads are just plain wrong. They turn off and alienate the potential customer. Just sayin’
