The Monday Peeve 48

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the TMP tag, link back to me (or not), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen. I have feelings!

Today’s peeve is about entertainment. There are too many choices! I end up scrolling endlessly through Netflix or Prime trying to pick a show. Prime recommends things based on what I’ve already seen, but often I don’t like a show and exit after 10 minutes. I don’t want to see 27 more shows like that one. I’ll click through the stuff everyone else is watching (or so they say), and that’s all pretty meh to me. If I go to categories, such as romance or drama, most of those offerings I’ve already seen or am not interested in. Tonight I searched for a movie, An American Pickle, which I’ve wanted to see ever since I read the description. Welp, it’s only on HBO, but not the HBO I have access to, but HBO Max or something. FFS! Why can’t I just pay five bucks to watch it or whatever? I’m not subscribing to a new channel ~ that would just expand my choices of crap I don’t want to see.

Luckily, I can do puzzles on my phone or read a book…

  1. I’m with you. To many choices and too much wasted time.

  2. Yes, narrow shit down people! If I want to watch a documentary, I shouldn’t have to scroll through a gazillion of them to find something I want!

  3. I haven’t watched a show or movie in a long time. We watched Onward a while back and Toy Story 4 before that.

Definitely too many to pick from, and never what I WANT… on 4 different streaming services. 😠

I remember the dilemma of two shows I wanted to watch being on two different stations at the same time… what to do, what to do?? 😂😂

  4. It’s all just a variation on the theme that HBO actually invented, way back then, when you got all excited to buy HBO, finally got it installed, then over the next week or so watched the six good movies that they had in their lineup and spent the rest of the year scouring the selections and rejecting everything, and it turns out that the price of watching the movies you selected came out to about a hundred dollars each.

  6. Something that mystifies me is the fact (fact) that Prime offers me a larger and larger selection of ‘foreign films’. Films that are in another language (one I don’t speak either), or in cultures that I have no interest in learning about from a romantic point of view. I was looking (vainly) for a romantic comedy and got 75% of the ‘recommends’ in film formats from a different culture. I’ve never even watched ONE from that category, so why they think piling on the suggestions is going to suddenly influence me to start watching is a problem. I’ve tried contacting ‘Customer Support’, because unlike Netflix, Prime doesn’t offer ‘settings’ – at least none I’ve ever found, and so I can’t adjust whatever is out of whack that way. They (Prime) KNOW my demographics. It’s so irritating. Thanks for giving me a chance at a mini-peeve to yours! And just for kicks, here’s the one I wrote (on a totally different subject):

  7. Makes me glad we haven’t got a TV, cable, or whatever! MSM had a good package, over 100 channels and very few showed anything of interest to us. We’ re still trying to work out why the original Star Trek was on the Horror channel!!

  8. My peeve for this week…trying to figure out how to download a book from the public library. Apparently now you need the app on your tablet. AND all the books that I wanted were already taken.
