New Neighbors

The couple stopped across the street from the new house. “Good lord!” Mildred said. “What a monstrosity. I bet they cook children in there. Remember Hansel and Gretel?”

“Now, now dear.” Arthur patted his wife’s arm lightly. “We should be welcoming to our new neighbors. But I am going to say something to the HOA about the color. It’s almost pink!”

“It is pink!” Mildred said. “With a dollop of frosting it could be a cake. And you know our HOA will simply equivocate and do nothing as usual.”

Arthur sighed. “I guess you’re right. From now on let’s take our walk in the other direction so we don’t get annoyed.”

Mildred agreed and they turned around.

Finally, those gawkers were gone! Jasmine smiled to herself in the kitchen of the pink house as she resumed preparing the marinade. There was definitely an advantage to blackout curtains.

  7. Haha! I love your story! We had a similar situation when we lived in Jacksonville, FL. A neighbor added extensions to his house and it barely fit on his lot. It was an eyesore and all of the neighbors were annoyed. Thank you for joining in.
