Your Mother Should Know [socs]

Paula and the vat of shrimp chow mein

The prompt for SOCS is “song” and we are to find the picture closest to us… then we post the title and/or lyrics of the song it triggers. I’m writing this in bed very early Saturday morning and the picture closest to me is a photo of my parents. It makes me think of the Beatles’ song in the title, plus my parents were big Beatles’ fans. 🎶

My dad liked the Doors a lot too, and he loved Bette Midler. My mom was a huge Johnny Cash fan. I ended up digging all the music my parents liked, even some super country stuff. I miss my parents a lot, and especially my mom. She’s been gone since April 2008 and I’m still not over it. She was the most important person in my life until I had children. ❤️

My daughter Diane is visiting this weekend. It’s the first time I’ve seen her in person since Christmas! I’m so thrilled she’s here! We’re driving up to LA later to visit my younger daughter, SIL, and granddaughter. Last night we got drunk and cut my hair. Well, I got drunk; she was fine. My hair has super short layers I hadn’t expected from the “ponytail method,” but it looks great! I’m very pleased with the result, and now I don’t have to worry about going to the salon.

People around here are not taking the virus seriously enough, which is why I’m glad I can postpone the salon visit, maybe to even next year. Yesterday Diane and I went to a drugstore for a couple things and the cashier wasn’t wearing his mask, nor was the woman behind us. Then we stopped at a Chinese restaurant for takeout but it was too crowded in there, so we left. They should have a system where people wait outdoors for their order.

We came home, opened the wine, and decided to order delivery from that place. But they were out of my favorite eggplant! I didn’t know what else to get, so we decided to share shrimp chow mein. The guy said the minimum order was a “medium” and we got that. Diane thought there was enough time to cut my hair before it came, but I wanted to have more wine first.

The order arrived. It was a catering size medium! Like a giant vat of chow mein! Holy crap. We had some and then Diane used all of my Tupperware to save the rest, which apparently I will be eating for the next month. 🤣

Then we cut my hair. The wine made me sleepy, so I crashed at 10 and was awake by 5am. The pic is of pre-haircut. I’ll post the results later.

Let’s all get up and dance to a song
That was a hit before your mother was born
Though she was born a long long time ago
Your mother should know (your mother should)
Your mother should know

  1. lol, I hope you like chow mein! Perhaps not the best Beatles song ever, but any Beatles song is a good choice…

  3. Nice song Paula. I got my haircut in January and since I don’t go anywhere, I don’t care what it looks like.

  6. I still see masks everywhere. Places won’t let you in without a mask. SD county has been pretty good. But we spiked too. I heard that a lot of people came down here from OC & LA cuz our beaches & bars were open.🤬 I havent even been to the beach cuz I have respect for the people who live there.

Very cool that your daughter is visiting and both girls together plus the munchkin 🎉🥂💃🏼 WOOT WOOT!!! I’m very happy for you!

You are gonna HATE shrimp chow mein by the time that’s finally gone😂

  8. Looks delish and leftovers are always nice to have handy.

I’d love to learn more about the pony tail method. Lulu said she’d cut my hair but I can’t get mad it if doesn’t turn out. At this stage, I’m not caring much as long as I can avoid a salon. There’s been cases here where the stylist knew she wasn’t well and worked anyway. By the time she fessed up, several customers were exposed to Corona. Our cousin is waiting for her test results with fingers crossed since she was only in the same room but had someone else working on her hair.
