The Monday Peeve 31

Monday Peeve kitty

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the #TMP tag, and link back to me (or not ~ I dgaf), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen! I have feelings!

Just the other day I worried I wouldn’t have anything to peeve about because I wasn’t going out much and getting annoyed. But then I logged into LinkedIn! Omg, that site is more irritating than ever. I know I’ve complained about it before, but it has not been an official TMP topic ~ now it is. My specific gripe is that it’s turned into FB lite. Not content with giving us space to post our resumes/profiles, connecting us with others in our fields, and helping recruiters find a way to contact us, LinkedIn now has this increasingly non-job related “feed.”

Just as you would expect, people are dumping garbage into that feed, stuff that has absolutely no relevance to anything career-related. Forex, this jerk I’m a first level connection with had all these “likes” and reposts of typical rightwing bullsh*t conspiracy theory articles. What the hell does all this have to do with working? Nothing! I reported some for being inappropriate. I also muted that guy. But I did not delete him from my contacts because I have only a very few number of connections to begin with. What if (Gd forbid) I have to look for a new job someday? Employers apparently care about this number. It’s dumb, but so is everything now! 😡😡😡

  1. I did lose my job. After 11 1/2 years on 3/27. I filed my unemployment (finally) after 12 hours of sitting at the computer in the course of 5 days. It’s still pending a week later. It’s a mess! I’m lucky though because our house is paid off and I can suspend payments on my car and student loans. On a positive, I’ve started writing my novel. Have a great day!

  2. You’re right, there. Everything is dumb now. I didn’t know that LinkedIn had that much influence, but it doesn’t surprise me. It is very much like how we allow a couple of independent companies to assign us credit scores which are then referenced for everything from car loans to job applications to apartment rentals. (For the latter, of course we have to actually pay them to look it up–but that’s a whole ‘nother peeve.)

  3. It makes me appreciate being 100% disabled. The pay sucks, but the uniform is comfy.
Younger Daughter has been in freakout mode since she lost her job. She’s had trouble getting her taxes and unemployment filed. She started applying for fast food, anything… I’d hate to be in the job market these days. Even before everything blew up.

  4. Social media is all about personal opinions nowadays. And if we don’t agree than we are in constant upset!

  5. I never felt LinkedIn was all that useful to begin with and shut down my account a couple of years ago. Sounds like it’s gotten worse…
