The Monday Peeve 24

Monday Peeve cat

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the #TMP tag, and link back to me (or not ~ I dgaf), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen! I have feelings!

VIDEOS ARGGHHHH! I don’t want to watch videos about every damn thing! When I look up a song on YouTube, that’s when I like to see a video… but for everything else? Write it in words. I don’t want to listen to some idiot yapping about how to download a form or get published or make chocolate cinnamon candy. Just write it the eff down! I hate listening to people talk! It makes me so angry when I think I’m going to read an interesting article and the dreaded red button pops up.

Look at how we have a text-based medium here with lovely letters appearing on the screen. Let’s keep it that way!

PS: After I scheduled this post, my bank sent me a video to watch about how I can save more money next year. How about I spend the time working that I would have watched their stupid video?!?

  4. Totally agree. I looked for info on how to fix a problem on my computer. The instructions could have been given in a few sentences but they had a video that went on and on in slow motion it seemed showing what to do. I finally just quit looking and figured it out myself.

  5. I would appreciate the written form too. Specially when I google how to do something and I get YouTube video in return.

  6. Videos are good for some things (how to xyz, you can see it for yourself), but I HATE going to a news story and having a video play. I take short breaks at work and read the news – I want to be informed. To suddenly have a loud video blasting…No! I want to read the news. Read. News is to be read.

  7. Ugh, It’s so annoying. I work in Excel frequently, but sometimes I forget shortcuts, so I google to see and it gives me a Youtube tutorial! I already know how to do it, I just want to read the steps to see which step I’m missing!! It drives me nuts!! Completely agree with you here.

  8. It’s frustrating that universally these types of time wasting videos are despised, and yet they are still here with us. What about watching 30 seconds of advertising to see a video with maybe ten seconds of relevant information?
One time just for fun I watched the first three and a half minutes of a video on how to fix this thing on a camera, and I could have related everything pertinent in about 15 seconds. Or written it down so it could have been read in about 3 seconds.
“Doing this thing to this camera is easier than you think, and not worth sending it in for an expensive repair. I will show you how.”
    C’mon.

  9. I agree 100% percent.
However, my humble, personal research shows that people prefer videos because they can do other things as they are listening.
    SAVE THE WRITTEN WORD!

  10. It really depends on what the video is for. If I want step-by-step instructions, usually text is enough, but if you have to actually do something, seeing somebody else do it is helpful. But to have information offered only as a video, no text transcript: No, thanks!
