The Monday Peeve 6

The Monday Peeve

Smiles and positive posts are all well and good, but sometimes I need to vent a bit. How about you? That’s what The Monday Peeve is all about, a chance to blow off a little steam at the beginning of the week, so then we can go merrily on our way once again (hah). I’ll pick a topic that’s on my mind, but you can vent about whatever you please, here in comments or on your own blog. Grab the photo, use the #TMP tag, and link back to me (or not ~ I dgaf), and Bob’s yer uncle. I do reserve the right to delete any links that offend my delicate sensibilities. So far, none have, but it could happen! I have feelings!

Here we go then with today’s…

People often complain about texting while driving, but this peeve is about texting in a different kind of car. I am a regular and frequent user of office building elevators, and many times people are so busily texting in the elevator that they don’t GET OUT when the car stops. So, I think no one is in there and proceed to step on, when someone comes rushing off and almost slams into me. WTF? Idiots! They don’t apologize either. In fact, they may appear aggrieved, as if it’s my fault I didn’t know they were doing important texting in there and should have continued to stand in the lobby waiting until they were finished.

It’s not that I’m impatient. I don’t care about jumping right into the elevator. I have now begun to wait a couple extra seconds because of the texters, but even that is sometimes not enough. I guess I wish they would just say sorry or excuse me. There are so many rude people in office buildings you’d think you were at the mall sometimes. Maybe the elevator should have a yellow light indicating that a stupid human is still in there, oblivious to reality.

  3. I can see where this is really annoying… I freak out when people text and drive. I’ve almost been hit three times because of that. But, it’s pretty bad that you have to look both ways before entering or exiting an elevator.
Damn, people… Try to pay better attention and be courteous to your fellow human beings. A crisis is not going to take place if a text doesn’t get sent the second you receive one. Oye! 😤

  11. Excellent point about the phone-o-holic. Please put the fingers (thumbs) AWAY and exit the car in an orderly fashion. 😡 Recently I had a cop tell me I should text someone in the cop shop the next time someone tried to rear end me by tailgating (and probably texting as they were doing so). I goosed the gas pedal and got a hefty ticket as reward. That moron that almost clipped me should have gotten it instead IMHO.

  12. I’m right there with you. Or if I’m on the elevator, it stops, the door opens, but nobody seems to be getting on. It’s almost about to close, and THEN someone sticks their hand in. Please, value my time. I could have missed my bus because of you.
And yes, the lack of apology and the anger directed at you is insane.

  14. I just found out about this via Fandango’s blog. I’ll be back for more! I have plenty of peeves.
This reminded me of how one time my son got a call while in a restaurant, and he went outside to take it. When he came back in, the waiter said: “you must not be from around here.” My son said: “actually, I was born here and have lived here all my life.”
The waiter was astounded because usually people just take the call without a thought to anyone around them.
