Blogsturbation

It just occurred to me to follow myself. I’m sure that must be legal in California. And now look! πŸ˜€πŸ‘€πŸŽ‰ I have finally zoomed up to 800 WP followers, woohoo! I’m in the big leagues now, baby! Yeehaw!

Yeah, yeah. I know some of you have 1000, 2000, 8000, whatever. But plz remember that I stagnated here for a decade posting sad song lyrics and complaining about dating sites to around 12 people via email plus my Facebook friends. It’s only recently since I dumped FB that I began interacting with the WP writing community.

Love you all! ❀️

(Hope this is okay for the Weekly Smile.)

  1. Congrats! I’ve stagnated for months now. You’ll have thousands in no time πŸ™‚

  2. I have 621 followers, but actually I have less than two dozen people that will read any of my posts.

  3. This is the most useless statistic on WordPress, so I never bother trying to learn anything about new followers. However if a blogger LIKES my posts or makes comments, then I will check them out.

  4. Woohoo! Go you! I have almost 4000 but half or over half of them never comment or like my posts so they must either not read or silently read! xo

  5. Congratulations, that’s actually pretty impressive. I have recently rocketed up to 5 followers, and a few non-following occasional readers or perhaps one or two more-than-occasional readers. The raw stats don’t seem to differentiate. In any case, I anticipate that at this blistering pace, I’ll break double-digits in the next couple of years. Fingers crossed!

  8. Very cool!
I never thought about following myself, but I’ve seen where people put a like by their own posts, and also tag their blog name.
I know there is some way to find out how many are following, but can’t remember how to do that. πŸ™‚

  10. It never occurred to me to follow myself….hmmmm. The reason I don’t care much about stats is that most of the Followers DON’T interact at all…they just want to sell me stuff from blogs I wouldn’t have slightest interest in, no “like-mindedness” involved πŸ™‚ But I’m willing to ponder… πŸ™‚

  13. It’s never occurred to me to follow my own blog, either. Perhaps I should. I have less than 130 followers, and I truly don’t understand how some have over 1000, or even more. How do so many people stumble and enjoy a blog? I don’t know. I guess I’ll just continue to do my thing and see how it pans out. But for you, well done, and keep on blogging! I love reading your posts.

    • It’s weird, I used to think people would find me because of what I wrote, but I only gained followers after engaging with prompt posts. That was key for me.

      • Hmm, true. I follow the ragtag daily prompt, and have noticed many others, including yours. I’ve also noticed some incredibly clever bloggers who can craft various word prompts into one post. Gah! I have trouble thinking up a post for one, let alone two or more! But you’re right, most of my followers have come since I’ve actively engaged with bloggers over the prompts. I’m not too worried about how many followers I have (like weight, it’s just a number πŸ™‚ ) but one of my sons is keen to hear when I’ve reached the next milestone i.e. 150.

      • Some of the prompts will be disappearing May 1. I’ll have to decide how to proceed then. Poems usually work best with one prompt, so maybe that’s a sign to get back to more poetry for me πŸ™‚
