Song Lyric Sunday: Cold

I love songs that tell a story, and I especially appreciate songs that are based on novels. For Jim’s prompt this week, I’m sharing the tragedy of “Wuthering Heights” in lyrics and music. Kate Bush wrote this wonderful song in 1977 for her debut album The Kick Inside. It’s her most successful single.

Out on the wiley, windy moors
We’d roll and fall in green
You had a temper like my jealousy
Too hot, too greedy
How could you leave me
When I needed to possess you?
I hated you, I loved you, too

Bad dreams in the night
They told me I was going to lose the fight
Leave behind my wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Ooh, it gets dark, it gets lonely
On the other side from you
I pine a lot, I find the lot
Falls through without you
I’m coming back, love
Cruel Heathcliff, my one dream
My only master

Too long I roam in the night
I’m coming back to his side, to put it right
I’m coming home to wuthering, wuthering
Wuthering Heights

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Ooh, let me have it
Let me grab your soul away
Ooh, let me have it
Let me grab your soul away
You know it’s me, Cathy

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold
Let me in through your window

Heathcliff, it’s me, I’m Cathy
I’ve come home, I’m so cold

Omg this video… 😢😢😢

  1. It’s a brilliant song, one of her best up with A Woman’s Work imo

  2. Tried singing along, but my rusty singing voice can’t hit those notes any more. Also had to find out what “Wuthering Heights” is actually about. I knew it was a dark story. Now I know just how dark. Anyway, Kate Bush is awesome!

  3. I liked the video as I had only seen the 1939 Wuthering Heights movie and that was in black and white.
