I’m not keen on extremes. Seems lately, at least on the internet, most of what you read veers to the ideology of the far left or the far right. And people do love their labels. They’re not comfortable until they slap one on you and box you up. Everywhere you go, you’re bedeviled with folks yelling out “racist!” “socialist!” “traitor!” etc. at peeps.
I find it much more sensible to hover in the middle. That’s not to say I’m indecisive on issues of the day ~ I feel strongly about many topics. But much of the time I don’t agree with what’s being presented as either the “conservative” position or the “liberal” position. They both swing too wildly from anything that makes sense for our society, whether we’re talking about something like banning all guns or banning all abortions (and the birth control pill too!)… just pure insanity, imo.
This is why I call myself a moderate. And the more outrageous things I read from both sides only further convinces me that staying in the middle is a good place to be. Of course that also makes me a convenient target of wrath and derision from peeps at both ends, but eh whatever.
The middle is where it’s at, man.
(Sorry to get political, but this was on my mind today and I wasn’t feeling the creative vibe.)
The middles where its at! I’m with ya on that paula! π

I don’t see why you have to stick to a side, left or right, and I get fed up with online indignation. That said, the latest thing I got mildly outraged about was vegan animal rights protesters being called nutcases…. I guess that puts me firmly on the left.

Oh gosh. It was so difficult dealing with the vegan groups. People were so mean. For a while I was vegetarian and curious about veganism, so of course the true vegans were terrible to anyone who hadnβt fully converted yet. Then there were the meat eaters come to troll and being awful to everyone. Shudder.

Oh yeah, people on all sides of the debate love to get on the moral high ground. You can’t really be a pure vegan unless you decide not to keep carnivorous pets. On the other hand PETA does a lot of great work to improve the lives of animals, so I don’t like that response of just dismissing them as loonies.

Here’s a problem I have I’d like your take on.. I sometimes encounter blogs where the posts, about religion or abortion is murder, really get my goat. I’m tempted to argue but I know I won’t convince anyone, as reason is rarely the operative factor. So should I just step away from the vehicle..?

I donβt respond to the abortion posts, except for one recently that linked to a completely wackadoo essay about how Satan was compelling lesbians to have abortions. I mean wat? I didnβt get any real answer from bloggy friend. But in general I figure people are free to post about their gods and opinions… if they think all abortion is murder, okay. Iβm not going to change their mind. But if they come over here and act nasty, then that will be a problem. See, Iβm not causing any trouble at their blog, so I expect the same consideration here. I wonβt host nastiness.
If I read something racist though or otherwise over the line disturbing, I will unfollow and stop interacting. That has only happened a few times.

I remember that vegan asshole wishing that you get colon cancer because you didn’t change your diet overnight.

Agree. The middle is more of a balanced perspective.

I rarely hear about comprehensive gun bans from liberals. When I see or hear it it’s usually from conservatives being hyperbolic about background checks or bump stocks.

I liked the underwear party in the video and I think it is important to sit on the fence for a while and also this was a very creative post.

Three cheers for the moderates.
You summed up so well what I have always felt.

Thanks! I think many of us hesitate to speak out because the people on the extremes are just so loud and aggressive, but weβre here too. π

I agree with middleness; always preferred that position in most things, myself. Extremes don’t serve the majority. At the very edges, extremists all look and behave alike, whether they came from the right or the left, and it’s never healthy.
But what I really opened the comment box up for is that for a moment I thought you’d posted a picture of that black hole.
Uh, that is all.

The extremes sounding alike–that is a very interesting observation. And if they’re alike, then the middle is somewhere between the extremists and the totally disinterested, and/or disenfranchised. Meaning, I guess, the rest of us. And the best thing about that is “the rest of us” don’t always agree on everything, but that is where the dialog should be. The extreme left and right could, as any good statistician will tell you, be treated as anomalous outliers and ignored. I mean, personally, I’m tired of being sucked into the ever-growing vortex of angst and outrage. Not that that’s a bad thing.
