Sunday Song Lyrics: Find

Unlike last week, a song immediately popped into my mind for today’s prompt. Maybe that’s because I recently read Jim’s super informative (and sad) poast about Badfinger.

“Day After Day” reminds me of specific times in my life when I’ve been sad, after finding out information about someone, and wanting them to return. Even though it’s a depressing song, I really love it. Not sure why. It was written by Pete Ham and produced by George Harrison for Badfinger in 1971. It went gold.

I remember finding out about you
Every day, my mind is all around you
Looking out from my lonely room, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you

I remember holding you while you sleep
Every day, I feel the tears that you weep
Looking out of my lonely gloom, day after day
Bring it home, baby, make it soon
I give my love to you […]

  5. The Badfinger story is truly tragic. I wrote about them a year or so ago. I used to write about a lot of different groups all the time. It was their story that just made me so sad that I needed to take a break and just post fun songs for a bit. It’s so conflicting. How could such beautiful music be filled with so much tragedy?

  6. Badfinger — excellent choice, big thumbs up.

My choice was originally going to be “Führe Mich” (Rammstein), but the background would take WAY too much explaining, and “Pussy Liquor” (Rob Zombie) which, while a rousing song to get you up and running on the morning drive to work, doesn’t seem “right” for Sunday Lyrics, and “Halo” (Collide) needs a crowded Molly-wired, dark club or 120MPH on a black road….

    i breath in here
    i breath in here
    beyond
beyond eons i take you in here
your crimson could break entangled here
your halo has shifted inside my head
    inside my head
    entangling internal

Yeah, OK. I’d as well go back to the Germans’ Industrial Metal. In any event, it’s not for here.

(I’ve been in something of a “mood” for the last few days, which has actually faded to a vague amusement at myself, but which does tend to guide my life soundtrack.)

So, instead, for no apparent reason, I settled in on more neutral garden-variety paranoia that’s in a favorite of mine: “Good Night Moon” (Shivaree)

There’s a nail in the door
And there’s glass on the lawn
    Tacks on the floor
    And the TV is on
And I always sleep with my guns when you’re gone

There’s a blade by the bed
And a phone in my hand
    A dog on the floor
And some cash on the nightstand
When I’m all alone the dreaming stops
    And I just can’t stand

What should I do I’m just a little baby
What if the lights go out
And maybe and then the wind just starts to moan
Outside the door he followed me home

    So goodnight moon
    I want the sun
    If it’s not here soon
    I might be done
No it won’t be too soon ’til I say goodnight moon
